Sew Your Own Scout Pattern Dress or Shirt – suitable for both men and women.
Learn to sew a stylish, versatile dress or shirt using the popular Scout pattern.
In this friendly, hands‑on workshop you’ll build confidence sewing garments with woven fabrics, understand fit and construction, and go home with a beautifully finished piece you’ll be proud to wear. The Scout pattern allows you to make either a neat shirt or a casual dress. It is inspired by 1920s scouting uniforms, giving a vintage yet timeless feel. Perfect if you’d like to move beyond simple makes and develop skills you can use again and again.

What to bring;
- Fabric - linen, light weight denim, cotton, chambray, poplin or linen/cotton blends. (approx. 2 metres for the shirt or 3 metres for the dress)
- Matching thread.
- 6 x 11-15mm buttons.
Skill level
Suitable for confident beginners and above. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine and sewing a straight seam.
If you would like a refresher on using a sewing machine, we suggest doing our Beginners Guide to Sewing Machine workshop before this workshop.
This workshop takes place in our Sewing School.
We have brand new Janome sewing machines for you to use, plus all the other tools, equipment and sewing 'notions'.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.
We have sewing machines you can use, but if you prefer to bring your own you are very welcome to.

This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I'm afraid we do not have a lift. We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
