Patchwork & Quilted Floral Panel
Bring a bit of the garden indoors with our Patchwork Floral Panel workshop.
This course is all about the joy of precision piecing—turning simple squares and triangles into these vibrant, geometric blooms. It’s a fantastic project for building your confidence with a sewing machine while creating a beautiful piece of textile art.
What You’ll Do
We will focus on the fundamentals of patchwork piecing. You’ll learn how to build these structured floral blocks using classic techniques. We’ll guide you through:
• Mastering the HST: Learn how to create "Half-Square Triangles," the secret to those crisp petals and leaves.
• The Perfect Quarter-Inch: Discover how to achieve an accurate seam allowance so your corners meet up perfectly every time.
• Colour & Contrast: We’ll help you pull together a palette of "Petal" and "Leaf" fabrics that make your design sing.
• Quilting & Finishing: You’ll learn how to "sandwich" your work with wadding and backing. We’ll then use the machines to add beautiful, tactile texture across the panel, giving it that classic quilted "crinkle."
What’s Included
• Full use of our studio sewing machines, including specialist patchwork feet.
• All cutting equipment: Rotary cutters, self-healing mats, and quilting rulers.
• Premium Wadding and any necessary interfacings for a professional finish.
• A library of quality threads in a variety of coordinating shades.
• Plenty of tea, coffee, and cake to keep the creative energy high!
What to Bring
• Your Floral Fabrics: Bring a selection of "Fat Quarters" or large scraps. You’ll need one or two colours for your petals and a green for your leaves. We will have fabric you can use here too.
• Background Fabric: Approx. 0.5 metres of a neutral fabric (white, cream, or light grey) to act as your "sky."
• Backing Fabric: A single piece of cotton fabric (roughly 50cm x 50cm) for the reverse of your panel.
It’s methodical, colourful, and very satisfying. You’ll leave with a finished 45cm (18") square quilted panel, ready to be hung on the wall or turned into a statement cushion.
