Discover the magic of kiln-fired art in our Fused Glass workshop. This course is a brilliant introduction to glass art, where you’ll learn how to layer vibrant glass fragments (frit), powders, and "bobbles" to create your own miniature masterpiece. Whether you want to create a delicate botanical scene or a bold abstract design, the "big reveal" after the kiln firing is always a thrill!
What You’ll Do
We will guide you through the basics of glass assembly and design. You will learn how to:
• Design with Glass: Learn how to "build" your picture using a clear glass base and layering it with colourful glass frit (crushed glass), stringers (thin glass rods), and decorative glass bobbles.
• Safety & Scoring: We’ll show you how to safely handle and cut glass to get the shapes you need for your design.
• Kiln Magic: Understand the basics of how heat transforms separate pieces of glass into a single, smooth, and shimmering "fused" artwork.
• The Finishing Touch: After your piece has been fired in our kiln, it will be ready to be framed in a deep box frame, creating a beautiful 3D effect that catches the light.
What’s Included
• All glass materials: Including base glass, a rainbow of colourful frits, stringers, and glass bobbles.
• Professional glass tools: Use of our specialized cutters, safety glasses, and running pliers.
• Kiln Firing Service: We will professionally fire your artwork in our studio kiln after the workshop.
• Display Frame: A high-quality white box frame to showcase your finished picture.
• Plenty of tea, coffee, and cake to keep the creative energy high!
Your creations will be taken away to be fired and ready approx 3 weeks later.
