Ceramic Gonk Workshop

Add a touch of whimsical Nordic charm to your home with our Ceramic Gonk workshop! These quirky, bearded characters are a festive favourite, and in this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to hand-build your very own characterful fellow from scratch.

What You’ll Do

We’ll guide you through the satisfying process of bringing your Gonk to life. You will learn how to:
•    Form the Body: Use traditional hand-building techniques to create a hollow, conical base—the perfect foundation for a tall, slouchy hat.
•    The Big Beard & Nose: Discover how to add "bushy" texture to create a flowing beard and roll that iconic round nose that sits just beneath the brim.
•    Personalised Details: Whether you want your Gonk to have a smooth, sleek hat or one decorated with stars and patterns, we’ll show you how to add those unique finishing touches. If you'd like your Gonk to glow, we can even show you how to pierce decorative holes to turn him into a tea-light holder!
•    Glazing on the Day: To ensure your piece is ready for the holidays, you will glaze your Gonk during the workshop. We’ll show you how to apply professional glazes directly to your damp clay, allowing you to choose a classic festive palette or something more modern.

What’s Included

•    All materials: High-quality clay and a range of professional glazes.
•    Specialised Tools: Use of our carving tools, sponges, and texture stamps.
•    Professional Kiln Firing: We will professionally fire your Gonk in our studio kiln once it has dried.
•    Plenty of tea, coffee, and festive cake to keep the creative energy high!

What to Bring

•    Old Clothes or an Apron: Clay work is great fun but can be a bit messy, so please wear something you don't mind getting clay on.
•    Collection Info: Your Gonk will be ready for collection from the studio approximately 3 weeks after the workshop—just in time for your Christmas celebrations.
