Slow Sewing - Hand Stitch Mini Hoops
Slow Sewing - Hand-Stitched Mini Hoops
In a world that moves too fast, come and enjoy the art of slowing down. This workshop is dedicated to Slow Sewing—a mindful, rhythmic form of hand embroidery that celebrates the "perfectly imperfect." Using simple stitches and beautiful textures, you’ll create a series of miniature textile artworks framed in tiny wooden hoops.
What You’ll Do
This session is less about following a rigid pattern and more about "sketching with thread." We’ll focus on the tactile journey of needle and cloth. You’ll learn how to:
• Embrace the Improv: Layer small scraps of linen, lace, and vintage fabrics to create a textured "collage" base.
• Master the Essentials: We’ll cover versatile hand stitches like the running stitch, seed stitch, and French knots to add depth and detail.
• Mindful Mark-Making: Discover how the simple act of repetitive stitching can be a form of meditation, turning scraps into a beautiful, abstract landscape.
• The Finishing Touch: Learn how to "mount" your miniature masterpieces into tiny 3-inch or 4-inch embroidery hoops, ready to hang or give as a thoughtful gift.
What’s Included
• A "Texture Tray": Use of our beautiful threads, including stranded cottons, variegated silks, and wools.
• Needles and Thimbles: All the hand-sewing tools you’ll need for the day.
• Mini Display Hoops: Three 3" or 4" wooden embroidery hoops to frame your work.
• Instructional Stitch Guide: A handy take-home card featuring the stitches we cover.
• A peaceful atmosphere: Complete with soft music and plenty of tea, coffee, and cake.
What to Bring
• Sentimental Scraps: While we provide a base, please bring any tiny scraps of fabric that have meaning to you—an old handkerchief, a piece of a loved one's shirt, or a bit of vintage lace.
• A Slow Mindset: No experience is necessary, and there’s no need to hurry. This is your time to sit, stitch, and chat.
It’s gentle, creative, and incredibly restorative. You’ll leave with a set of three hand-stitched mini hoops and a much calmer outlook on your week.
