Workshop: Sew a Quilted Wash Bag

Join us for a fun, creative day of stitching and leave with a beautiful, fully finished, professionally structured quilted wash bag! Perfect for travel, cosmetics, or organising your crafting tools, this versatile project also makes an excellent handmade gift.

You can choose from four different sizes to suit your needs: Large Makeup Bag, Regular Makeup Bag, Mini Makeup Bag, or Pencil Case.

What You Will Learn

• Fabric Prep: How to accurately cut and align your outer fabric, wadding, and lining.
• Quilting Techniques: Straight-line or diamond machine-quilting to create a plush, textured structure.
• Zipper Insertion: Simple, stress-free methods to install a neat zip with clean fabric end-tabs.
• Boxy Construction: How to box the corners of your bag for a professional, spacious finish.
• Clean Seam Finishing: Tricks for sewing down the lining and hiding raw edges beautifully.

Materials & Equipment Provided

• Step-by-step printed instructions and pattern templates for all sizes.
• 100gsm polyester wadding cut to size for your chosen project.
• A standard nylon dress zip (basic neutral colours supplied to match most fabrics).
• Access to our brand new Janome sewing machines, plus all other tools, equipment, and sewing notions.
• Refreshments provided throughout the workshop.

What to Bring

Please bring light to mid-weight woven fabric (like quilting cotton or linen) for the exterior, and a lightweight woven fabric (like cotton poplin) for the lining.

• Large Makeup Bag: 0.6m Fabric | 0.6m Lining (Requires a 51cm / 20" zip)
• Note: Fat quarters are too small for this size. Please bring linear fabric cut from the bolt.
• Regular Makeup Bag: 2 Fat Quarters (one for exterior, one for lining) or 0.5m Fabric | 0.5m Lining (Requires a 46cm / 18" zip)
• Mini Makeup Bag: 2 Fat Quarters (one for exterior, one for lining) or 0.4m Fabric | 0.4m Lining (Requires a 35cm / 14" zip)
• Pencil Case: 2 Fat Quarters (one for exterior, one for lining) or 0.5m Fabric | 0.5m Lining (Requires a 46cm / 18" zip)

Note on Machines: We have wonderful brand new Janome sewing machines ready for you, but if you prefer to bring your own familiar machine, you are very welcome to do so!

Note on Zips: We provide a standard neutral dress zip. If you would like a specific statement colour, a metallic look, or a chunky decorative zip, please purchase and bring your own in the length listed above.

Workshop Details

• Skill Level: Confident Beginner. (Please note: You must know how to use a sewing machine for this session. If you are an absolute beginner, please attend our Sewing Machine for Beginners Workshop first).
• Duration: 3 hours.
• Date & Time: 3rd October 10-1pm
• Location: Upstairs in the Sewing School at Felix Tabitha. (Please note: The studio is located upstairs and we do not have a lift. A dedicated toilet and refreshment station are available on the same floor).
• Price: £35 (Includes templates, wadding, standard zip, refreshments, and expert guidance).
