Sea Glass Quilted Wall Hanging
Sea Glass Quilted Wall Hanging
Bring the beauty of the coast into your home—without the sand in your shoes! Our Sea Glass Quilt workshop is the ultimate "scrappy" art project. This session is all about "improvisational quilting," which is just a fancy way of saying there are no "quilt police" here. There are no tricky points to match and no strict templates to follow.
What You’ll Do
We will spend the day raiding your own collection of fabric scraps to find those perfect shades of aquamarine, frosted white, and bottle green. You’ll learn how to "fussy-cut" organic, pebble-like shapes and arrange them into a beautiful, overlapping mosaic on your background fabric.
Once your design is set, we’ll move to the machines for the highlight: Free-Motion Machine Embroidery. Often called "drawing with your sewing machine," this technique lets you move the fabric in any direction to create unique, textured artwork.
This is a true quilted project; you will learn how to "sandwich" your artwork with professional wadding and backing. As you "sketch" with thread, your stitches will penetrate all three layers, creating that classic quilted texture and a beautiful 3D effect that makes your sea glass shapes pop.
What’s Included
• Full use of our studio sewing machines, including specialist darning and embroidery feet.
• All sewing tools and notions: Sharp fabric shears, rotary cutters, pins, and rulers.
• Specialist stabilizers and fusibles needed to keep your "sea glass" perfectly in place while you stitch.
• A rainbow of quality threads to coordinate with your coastal palette.
• Expert guidance on machine setup, free-motion rhythm, and professional finishing techniques.
• Plenty of tea, coffee, and cake to keep the creative energy high!
What to Bring
• Your "Sea Glass" Scraps: This project is the ultimate stash-buster! Bring a selection of small fabric scraps in your favourite ocean colours (cottons and linens work best). We do have lot here you can choose from too.
• Background & Backing Fabric: Two pieces of neutral fabric (like light grey, white, or sandy linen) roughly 45cm x 55cm. One acts as your "beach" and the other as your quilt back.
• Wadding: One piece of cotton or polyester wadding, roughly 45cm x 55cm.
It’s social, it’s scrappy, and it’s a total blast. You’ll leave with a finished 35cm x 45cm coastal wall hanging, ready to be hung the moment you get home.
