Pumpkins & Gourds Patchwork & Quilted Panel
Pumpkin & Gourd Patchwork Panel
Celebrate the golden colours of autumn by piecing together your very own pumpkin patch. This workshop guides you through the process of creating charming, textured gourds and pumpkins using traditional patchwork techniques. It’s a wonderful way to learn precision piecing while creating a festive piece of seasonal décor.
What You’ll Do
We will focus on the "Stitch and Flip" technique—a total game-changer that allows you to create the illusion of rounded corners with simple straight-line sewing. You will learn how to:
• Build Your Blocks: Master the assembly of various pumpkin and gourd shapes, from tall, slender squashes to round, plump pumpkins.
• The Stem & Leaf Detail: Learn how to piece tiny stems and optional leaves to give your harvest its character.
• Precision Piecing: Discover how to use a quarter-inch seam to ensure your block units align perfectly for a professional finish.
• The Quilted Finish: We’ll "sandwich" your finished panel with wadding and backing. You’ll then learn simple quilting techniques, such as straight lines or "meandering," to add that tactile autumn texture.
What’s Included
• Full use of our studio sewing machines, equipped with specialized patchwork feet.
• All cutting equipment: Professional rotary cutters, self-healing mats, and quilting rulers.
• Premium Wadding and any specialist interfacings needed for the day.
• A library of quality threads in various shades of orange, green, and cream.
• Plenty of tea, coffee, and cake to keep your creative energy high!
What to Bring
This project is an excellent "stash-buster." To personalise your harvest, please bring:
• Your Autumnal Scraps: A selection of fat quarters or tonal fabric scraps in vibrant oranges, deep greens, and warm browns. We will have other fabric you can use here too.
• Background Fabric: Approx. 1.5 metres of neutral fabric (like cream, white, or a subtle swirl print) to act as your field.
• Backing Fabric: A single piece of cotton fabric (approx. 1.25 metres) for the reverse of your panel.
It’s methodical, colourful, and very satisfying. You’ll leave with a finished quilted panel, ready to be displayed as a wall hanging or turned into a seasonal table runner.
